ガリレオ・ガリレイ（伊: Galileo Galilei、ユリウス暦1564年2月15日 – グレゴリオ暦1642年1月8日）は、イタリアの物理学者、天文学者、哲学者。
パドヴァ大学教授。、ロジャー・ベーコンとともに科学的手法の開拓者の一人として知られており、その業績から天文学の父と称された。1973年から1983年まで発行されていた2,000リラ紙幣にガリレオの肖像が採用されていた。引用元: Wikipedia
